Game of Thrones (early preview)

All fans of A Song of Ice and Fire, George R. R. Martin’s series of fantasy novels, as well as numerous fans of HBO’s fantasy television series Game of Thrones, rejoice!

After a lot of rumours and Internet buzz, the hotly anticipated video game adaptation of the aforementioned, highly acclaimed, fantasy drama has been officially confirmed by Dan Connors, CEO of Telltale Games, at VGX 2013 award show.

Original informal discussion within Telltale Games about what other popular franchises they could base their future games on, led to Game of Thrones being the one most touted and given the most support by the majority of participants. Encouraged by this, Telltale Games approached HBO with the proposal of a video game adaptation and after a year of negotiations were eventually able to secure the license.

There is not much known about the game itself at the moment, except that it will be based more on the HBO’s fantasy television drama than on the original George R. R. Martin’s books, and that, like the previous Telltale Games’ successful titles, it will be most likely released in the episodic format.

“We like universes where is lot at stake and when you lose something, you really feel it. So if the players are making their choices and trying to decide what they should do, it means something, and the Game of Thrones has that huge universe, that huge political landscape, which is something we can take advantage of, to make the game better and make it a unique experience for the fans of the show.” says Dan Connors.

Telltale Games’ CEO admits that at the moment they are just trying to figure out the right way to get it done and which characters will get the most exposure, but historically, Telltale Games worked with many other coveted franchises that have similar type of depth, Walking Dead being just one of them, and they always got it right. Therefore, we have no doubt that if anybody can pull off this video game adaptation in a way which does not alienate the huge fandom of the franchise, it is Telltale Games.
